What is the relationship between petroleum and flannel blankets?

Over 90% of the raw material cost of polyester fiber is traced back to crude oil. The core industrial chain path is as follows:
Crude Oil → NaphthaCrude oil is distilled to obtain naphtha (aromatic raw material).
Naphtha → PX / EthyleneNaphtha produces PX (Para-Xylene) and ethylene through cracking and reforming processes.
PX → PTA ; Ethylene → MEGPX is oxidized into PTA; ethylene is processed into MEG (Mono Ethylene Glycol).
PTA + MEG → Polyester → FiberPTA and MEG are polymerized into PET chips, which are melt-spun into polyester filament / staple fiber.
Key DataIt takes approximately 3.7–4.6 tons of crude oil to produce 1 ton of polyester fiber;PTA and MEG account for about 70–80% of the total polyester production cost.
